Horizon Wiki

This article basically lists locations of valuable items. Much of this falls into the category of "Metagaming"[1]. Many of the locations can be visited right at the beginning to gain a material advantage over the NPCs.

Since many locations are subject to a "Cell Respawn", containers in particular are regenerated. This means that wild plants and vanilla crops can literally be farmed several times, which is a great advantage, especially at the beginning. The same applies to Power Armor Frames, when not scrapped via settler skill, or Mirelurk Eggs, which also respawn, whoever is quick can sprint out the Crabs and enormous amounts of food by scrapping the eggs in the cooking station can be gained.

Anyone who collects a lot of scrap will sooner or later no longer find a Vendor, whom you haven't sold everything to using the Courier Trading Service. As another option you can go to the Hermits and/or Farmers to trade various food and medical supplies.

Finding mines, bottlecap mines and mini-nukes, for example, provides the greatest benefit of all. Many of these items are just lying around in the wasteland, basically for free and even these regenerate with a few exceptions.

The amount of possibilities that are available with all the locations here can of course be cleverly combined in order to maximize the effectiveness per cell respawn in terms of loot and experience points.

NPCs[]

Enemies[]

With the appropriate equipment, many encounters are no problem. Instead, these give XP quickly and easily to make the player character even stronger. In the beginning of a game Yao Guai's and Rad Scorpions are worthwile to gain XP, both are fragile to fire (molotov cocktails). Robots such as Sentry Bots are also worth considering, they are not affected by the "Dynamic Encounter" mechanic, i.e. do not pursue the player and bring a lot of XP and only need about two bottlecap mines on average to bring them down.

Below is a not quite complete overview of fixed and random spawn locations of enemies. Searching an specific enemy type can be done under "Filter" top left corner of the map. The "Map" feature is in experimental state and if not displayed correctly, it is advisable to refresh the page (F5).

Vendors[]

Vendors have been overhauled. And many offer items based on their type and appearance. Knowing where to find them can largely influence gameplay, especially early on.

Unnamend vendors (Hermits, or Outcasts), had limited use (if any) in vanilla FO4. Due to the revision of the loot chances in general, visiting these merchants increases even more. Some are just pure junk traders others have valuable ammo, such as .308 or .50 rounds, available. Only a few are named and almost all can be visited at unmarked locations[2][3] easily overlooked. With the revision of Horizon, the inventories were nerfed and adjusted accordingly.

Some of these merchants can be killed when engaging in combat, problematic in this context, the Dynamic Encounter system increases the probability that these merchants will be killed as the game progresses. As the game progresses, however, the player has many opportunities to trade, which puts the benefits of these into perspective.

None can be reached through the Courier Trading Service though.

World Items[]

Bobblehead[]

All bobblehead locations in FO4 Horizon. With the revision of FO4, the names and attributes of the bobbleheads were changed. SPECIAL bobbleheads were replaced by +Perk bobbleheads and non SPECIAL bobbleheads now increase skill by +10 points in total. Various bobbleheads may increase two skill types at +5 points each.

Since the +perk bobbleheads are in locations that are sometimes easily accessible, it mighty be worth visiting them at the beginning of a game.

Components[]

Food And Water[]

Fusion Core[]

Although the Loot Respawn addon puts a chance on fusion generators, so can have charged or empty fusion cores, it is still recommended to visit these locations[4][5] to obtain an adequate amount of fusion cores, either for further adventures in a Power Armor or for converting them into Energy Cells using the Energy Fusion Converter (~100-150).

Magazine[]

In Horizon, some Magazines are replaced with Sealed Magazine Packages, also known as Dynamic Magazines. Thus most magazines are random, however some are still at where they are in vanilla FO4.

Power Armor Frame[]

All locations where Power Armor Frames can be found. Most of these are freely available but unlike vanilla power armor frames, equipped with strongly weakened power armor parts. Some might be proteced by enemies, some locked behind terminals.

Seawater[]

Settlements that are connected to the ocean allow the placement of a Seawater Extractor which produces a specific amount of seawater (based on the amount of seawater placed) per Production Cycle. Seawater is usefull for extracting salt. Salt in turn is usefull to gain basic ingredients to produce purified water.

📟 The "Charles River" usually includes no seawater[6]. The river flows against the ocean. Egret Tours Marina has the ability to place a seawater extractor which logically shouldn't be possible. Finch Farm instead is connected to the ocean but not considered to, in v1.8.0-BETA-7.

Stealth Boy[]

Stealth Boys in Horizon have been nerfed (shorter duration), however the primary use is limited to crafting personal cargo bots to increase the player's carrying weight and crafting Wilson. Wilson is a special eyebot that assists the player in finding junk items of all kinds and managing inventory load. He can also manually and automatically transport items to a settlement of choice (cargo destination).

📝 Note: Walden Pond no longer has a Stealth Boy, inside the safe in the gift shop basement, in Horizon.
